A private cultural community for physicians.

ARTEMEDI connects physicians with distinctive works by established and emerging artists through expert curatorial guidance, inspiring cultural experiences, and a community united by a shared appreciation for art.

Medicine demands knowledge, discipline, and compassion.

Art offers something equally valuable: perspective.

I Why Artemedi

Art has always belonged in places of healing.

For centuries, medicine and art have shared a common purpose: deepening our understanding of the human experience.

ARTEMEDI was founded on that belief.

It exists to help physicians build a lasting relationship with art — not only through collecting, but through discovery, dialogue, and shared cultural experiences that enrich both personal and professional life.

II Institutional Standing

Collected by museums. Recognized by history.

Artists within ARTEMEDI's curatorial program are held in 22 institutional collections across seven countries — including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian's Latino Art Collection, the Library of Congress, El Museo del Barrio, the Museo de Arte Moderno de México, the Museo de Bellas Artes de Caracas, and the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Wifredo Lam in Havana, alongside the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, the Museo de Arte de Ponce, and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo.

Museum acquisition is the closest thing the art world has to peer review — a judgment guided by preservation, scholarship, and public access rather than resale.

This is the level of artistic practice ARTEMEDI is committed to bringing closer to its members.

III Curatorial Leadership
Director & Curator

One vision. Countless artistic voices.

Every ARTEMEDI experience begins with a curatorial point of view.

For nearly three decades, Sylvia Villafañe has been an active presence in Puerto Rico's contemporary art community. As founder and director of Petrus Gallery, established in 1997, she has developed exhibitions and cultural initiatives, supported emerging talent, cultivated long-standing relationships with established artists, and helped bring Puerto Rican art to wider audiences.

Her work extends beyond the gallery through projects that bring art into public and unexpected spaces, participation in international art fairs, and cultural and community initiatives. She is also the founder and president of Adopta Ahora, reflecting a broader commitment to creating meaningful connections between culture, education, and community.

That experience and perspective shape ARTEMEDI's curatorial vision — guiding the artists and works introduced to members, the exhibitions and encounters they experience, and the deeper relationship with art that the community is designed to cultivate.
